what to wear

FOR YOUR SENIOR SHOOT

03.

It's time to start planning what to wear for your senior or graduation shoot! You might be excited to choose outfits, or you might be dreading it. Either way, I guarantee you there are no bad choices, as long as you feel comfortable in what you choose!

You are welcome to bring up to 3 outfits along to your custom senior shoot (sorry minis only leave time for one outfit, unless you layer). If you'd like me to weigh in on them, let me know! We can plan a video call, or you can send over thoughts or photos and I will happily weigh in.

A lot of girls do one or two dresses, and one jeans/top combo. If you hate dresses, don't bring one! Boys might bring up to three shirts, typically.

Long dresses are great for movement and they give you something to do with your hands (especially if they have pockets!).

For colors, opposing colors work well seasonally. For instance, if we are shooting in the fall with lots of yellow and orange leaves on the trees, blue is going to really pop. In the summer, when the grass is green, pink is going to look amazing. If we are going to be in a darker forest or shooting at sunset, white will stand out really well.

Recently, my female branding clients have been using Rent the Runway, which is a fabulous idea! You can "borrow" between 4 and 16 outfits at a time. Nuuly is also a fun rental option, their clothing is more along the lines of Anthropologie and Free People, and you can borrow 6 outfits for a month!

I always recommend NOT wearing your favorite outfit first, because you will probably become more and more comfortable in front of the camera as we go. The middle time slot tends to be the best for the favorite outfit, usually the light is the most golden at that time.

I have some reels where you can see what other girls have changed into over the course of their shoots here:

Shoes might show, so pay attention to them! We may have to walk on dirt trails, so you can always wear comfortable shoes and pack your nicer shoes in a bag to put on at our first stop.

Jewelry adds flair and I love it. Wear your rings and your bangles. Guys too! And bring your letter jackets, your soccer balls, and your volleyballs. Anything that is meaningful to you.

For college grads, I recommend bringing all of your regalia. If you can bring a friend to help you carry it and take it on and off, that is helpful too!

I do not recommend neon colors, as florescent colors are not picked up well by the camera.

Do not wear clothing with prominent logos (think giant Nike swoosh), they are very distracting.

Please look through the images below and on my instagram for inspiration, and ask lots of questions. I am here to help!

As for logistics, you can either change in your car, or let me know if you'd like to use my changing tent. It's a handy little pop-up situation that you can change in on the trail.
